About Us

Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital

Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital ("LJMH") was built in 1969 in Scotland, South Dakota with funds donated by individuals and businesses in the community and funds from a federal grant.  We are a community, non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors elected by the community.  The hospital was named after two long-time doctors, Gustav Landmann, MD and O.A. Jungman, DO.  The hospital is licensed for 25 acute care beds and 10 Swing Beds.  At any given time 19 beds are staffed.  In addition to general medical/surgical inpatient cases, many of our activities involve outpatient work.  Several visiting specialists conduct outreach clinics on a regular basis, including cardiology, urology, orthopedics, and ear, noce, and throat, as well as mobile MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and mammography.

LJMH is proud of the excellent patient care we provide to our patients and the kindness displayed to our patient families and friends. The hospital is noted for its community service, which includes an annual health fair, and bimonthly blood drives. LJMH employs over 50 full and part-time staff.  Dr. Melissa Bartling, family practice, joined our staff in 2006.  Dr. Bartling focuses on a wide variety of family healthcare issues and performs as the medical director of Scotland Good Samaritan Center as well. Certified Nurse Practitioner Brandi Pravecek provides care focusing on Women’s Health, Well Baby/Child care, and pre- and post-natal care, along with family practice.

Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital is engaged in a management partnership with Avera McKennan Hospital, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which is part of Avera Health.  Avera Health is comprised of locally-owned hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and home health/hospice agencies in eastern South Dakota and neighboring states. Through its commitment to health care as a ministry, and through the support of services of its regional centers in Aberdeen, Mitchell, Sioux Falls, and Yankton, Avera Health keeps consistently excellent care available in cities and towns throughout the region.
